Ken Ham: 'Lawrence Krauss Blasphemes Our Lord'

Krauss, Foundation Professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration and Physics Department, and Inaugural Director of the Origins Initiative, at Arizona State University. Dr. Krauss was a very vocal opponent of the Creation Museum when it first opened in 2007 (while he was a professor in the Cleveland, Ohio, area). In fact, he made some scathing attacks on the Creation Museum, including a commentary in the Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper (although he had not bothered to visit the museum). He was an advisory board member of the now-defunct group “Campaign to Defend the Constitution” (DefCon); DefCon members were out in front of our museum gates as protestors of the museum (not defenders of free speech!) when we opened in May 2007 (but Dr. Krauss did not tour the museum at that time). At about the same time, Dr. Krauss debated me on live national TV on the popular program, The O’Reilly Factor, on the Fox Network.
Krauss himself got criticism from some in the secular press because he had not even visited the museum to see it for himself. Presumably because of this criticism, he did come some time later and walked through the Creation Museum exhibits with AiG’s CCO, Mark Looy. Mark actually timed Krauss’s visit. He took a whole 22 minutes to walk through the museum, most of the time asking Mark Looy questions and only occasionally glancing at some of the exhibits. Considering it would take a person nearly one and a half hours to watch the programs in the various theatres, including the Planetarium and SFX theatre, plus take 2 hours to watch all the 50-plus videos in the various exhibits, and a further two hours to read all the signage—it was obvious Krauss wasn’t the least bit interested in researching the content of the museum (as one would expect from a real scientist and well-known anti-creationist commentator), but only visited presumably to tell people he has seen the Creation Museum and thus could comment on it—what a farce!

Monkeys Clean Teeth Just Like Humans

A monkey in Japan flosses its teeth with its hair, demonstrating that humans aren't the only animals that clean their teeth and invent tools to help with the task.
The flosser, a free-ranging, middle-aged, female Japanese macaque named Chonpe, may have come up with the tool and the idea, according to a new study that will appear in the January issue of Primates.
Lead author Jean-Baptiste Leca told Discovery News that dental flossing could have been a fortuitous yet "accidental byproduct of grooming."

Look how it developed." Can anybody accept such logic? If there was really such a sequence, it proves that this creature came after that one, but not that it developed from it. We must not rule out the possibility that Darwin had hidden psychological feelings. Darwin was reviled just like the Jews, who are told: "You are the brothers of apes and pigs." Allah transformed the Israelites who rebelled against him into apes and pigs, and it has become a curse used against them. Perhaps Darwin was upset and wanted to say to people: "You are all apes and pigs. It's not just us." Therefore, we can see that this theory is not based on sound foundations, and does not have sufficient proof. So today, it is considered to be a theory which used to be prevalent, but which lost many of its supporters, who renounced it, and which has become like a past legend. [...]
What remains for us to say is that the principle in which they believe is the principle of coincidence. The whole business happened by coincidence. If you said that a book could be created by coincidence, nobody on the face of the earth would accept it. Moreover, an Islamic scholar said: "If we took a million apes with a million typewriters, and these million apes were to type for a million years would a poem by [Egyptian poet] Ahmed Shawqi accidentally be created?" What is this? This is something that science, reason, and truth cannot accept.

Dual Holiday Displays Coexist in Raleigh's Moore Square

RALEIGH For the past several years, a Nativity scene has gone up in downtown Raleighs Moore Square during the holiday season depicting the birth of Jesus Christ.(Thanks Ivan)
But this year it has company. The Triangle Freethought Society, which is made up of atheists, non-theists and free thinkers, unveiled a winter solstice display marking the shortest and darkest day of the year, which lands on Dec. 21. Winter solstice typically marks the middle of winter with celebrations by ancient cultures around the world.
We felt it was important to have a counterbalance to that display this year, so we put a winter solstice display together, said Mark Zumbach, president of the Triangle Freethought Society. Our goal is to point out there are multiple reasons for celebrating the season.

The Known Universe

The Known Universe takes viewers from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space to the afterglow of the Big Bang. Every star, planet, and quasar seen in the film is possible because of the world's most complete four-dimensional map of the universe, the Digital Universe Atlas that is maintained and updated by astrophysicists at the American Museum of Natural History. 'Jesus vs. Santa' Decoration Causes Controversy

One Nipomo man's holiday decorations has his neighbors banding together to get it removed.
The display is of Jesus and Santa, the two icons of Christmas. However, Jesus is holding a shotgun over the dead body of Santa Claus.
Neighbors want the display taken down citing that there are children in the neighborhood and they find it disturbing. "I know its freedom of speech, but it's pretty disturbing and there are lots of children, that's our main concern," says neighbor Susana Cruz.
The artist, Ron Lake says that it represents the commercialism of Christmas.
Lake also says that his display it is a work of art and open to interpretation. "You can tell your kids and make it as if there's a Santa Claus, and let them believe all that, but you can't explain these things or ignore this thing. I don't get it," says Lake.

Elements of Eastern faiths and New Age thinking have been widely adopted by 65% of U.S. adults, including many who call themselves Protestants and Catholics, according to a survey by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life released Wednesday.

For 3 years a group called the Focus on the Family Action has been targeting retailers who don’t use the word “Christmas” in their retailing messages. This year they have decided to create an interactive website to make sure the shops are doing as they’re told.StandforChristmas.com
The motive behind this is quite clear – “For millennia, CHRIST has been the reason for the season” and the group feel as though the secularization of the holiday period is destroying the true meaning of what Christmas is.
On the site they state “not only is Christmas a memorable family time – it’s the time when people worldwide celebrate the centerpiece of their faith…Jesus Christ. The Savior of mankind was born in a manger. Do you know the story? Have you experienced this truth?”
There’s no mention of The Atheists Guide to Xmas on there however they do offer their own book – 101 Ways to Have a Christian Christmas.

Dan Barker was a Christian evangelist and musician for 19 years before he lost his faith. He tells the story in his book "Godless: How an evangelical preacher became one of America's leading Atheists". Dan is now President of the Freedom from Religion Foundation in the USA.
Charles Foster is a writer, barrister and traveller. A committed Christian he has written books defending the Christian faith including "The Jesus Inquest: the case for and against the resurrection". He says that, unlike Dan, when doubt came knocking he found the Bible to be trustworthy and the Christian story to be fulfilling.
They discuss Dan's deconversion, the case for the resurrection, and whether we are better off free from religion.

One of the wonderful things about www.richarddawkins.net is the enormous variety amongst its regular contributors. Old, young, in-between, highly educated, less educated, affluent, less affluent, male, female, straight, gay, serious, fun-loving, angry, mild-mannered, confident, timid, open about their atheism, unable to be open about their atheism, previously religious, never religious ... it is this depth and breadth of life experience and personality that keeps comments fresh and lively, and ensures that we all learn more about the world each time we visit the site.
And yet, for all the contrasts, the vast majority of contributors here are totally united in one key area: a commitment to reason, a sense of awe and excitement at the knowledge that has already been achieved through science, and a passionate desire to see reason and evidence-based thinking at the heart of our societies. We listen to the music of the spheres. We gaze into the Hubble Deep Field and intoxicate ourselves with images of distant galaxies in the act of formation, close to the dawn of time itself. We dive through the tube of a microscope and immerse ourselves in a wonderland of the intricately small. Reality is where we are. It is very large; and also very small, where it matters. It is mysterious; but the mystery is yielding to the methods of reason. Reality is comprehensible. And it is the mission of RDFRS to assist others to that comprehension.
