  2. Wow, so many memories this clip brings back. This is easily in my top 10 favorite episodes from when I was a kid. Ya know, back when the Simpsons was actually ....good? I can't believe it's 13 years old already. Fuck, I'm getting old. I still remember watching it when it first aired on TV and I was bothered by the fact that skeptics were yet again portrayed as confident in their disbelief only so long as nothing even slightly weird happened and then all bets are off. I was 16 at the time and had just discovered what skepticism was all about after reading Sagan's Demon Haunted World. My beliefs in things like UFOs and psychic abilities were falling dead one by one every day, I was right on the very edge of admitting to myself both that I was an atheist and then that I was gay. I'll never forget how dizzyingly exciting that new feeling of freedom from religion and unreason was, which understanding skepticism immediately brought with it.

"About the Science vs religion issue. Religion must keep away from science a least 500 yards."

(Or something like that, I am not a native English speaker) :)

  4. Sometimes it's funny because it's true, sometimes it's not funny because it's true... The Simpsons often exaggerate peoples' behavior for comedic purpose, but the behavior of the Springfield people in this episode is so close to reality that it's more sad really.
