The Beast File: Catholic Church Sex Scandals Go Back 2000 Years

by ABC Hungry Beast
Contrary to Pope Benedict's assertion that the immorality of modern society is to blame for sexual abuse of children by Catholic priests, the church's own historical documents reveal that sexual abuse has been a problem that the Catholic Church has failed to properly deal with since its earliest days. The Church's first official document referring to the problem of sexual abusing children was in the year 60 AD. All of the documents referred to in this piece are real and have been fact checked.

  2. The cycle doesn't stop because the ideology does not change. As long as the church extends it's bogus beliefs, discriminates against other groups & suppresses realistic human psychological behavior, echoes it's paedophile policy's & sentiment through politicians & society & maintains it's stance as an institution which is above the law, nothing will ever change.

  3. The episode this segment is from (available on the hungry beast website http://hungrybeast.abc.net.au/ ) also included a segment titled 'Things we think are bullshit' which this week talked about the recent Australian media and political vogue of attacking scientology while completely sidestepping the obvious hypocrisy of not investigating various other more mainstream religions.

The church got used to that they can say anything, because only a few can verify it and the church's propaganda is louder. But then the Internet came, and the answer to the lies is right back in a minute with beautiful packaging. The age of the lies has ended. It is paytime. I hope not only on this issue.

  8. 1984,

By their own account, yes. They claim to be the original church was founded by Jesus and passed on by the authority of the Apostles. The christian presence in Rome was wide-spread and organised by the late first century, so it is a reasonable broad claim that the catholic church (of which the RCC claim to be the true inheritors) is the church and has been around roughly a couple of millenia.

Doesn't time fly when you are having fun?

  9. hmm.. it might be I've just found a reason to believe in God: considering what is said about human arrogance in the bible, this might just be His way of telling us "Burn all those liers". Or "Stone all those liers" or use one of the myriad of other ways to kill someone He doesn't agree with.

I promise I'll come to my senses once we got rid of them, untill that time I claim Religious Fanatis.. err.. Spiritual Enlightenment!

  12. I don't think Didache or the rulings at Eliva can really be used to link priests to paedophilia. However, St Bede clearly wrote about this problem in the 700's, so we know the church has known about the link for at least 1300 years.
