  1. This guy sucks. He's a bigoted, unfunny little arsehole.

  2. For example, he confused 'mentalist' and 'mental case', as well as 'doubtful' and 'dubious'.

  3. And he's a lesbophobe and racist too! Well I just adore him! *rolls eyes*

  4. This guy rocks. He's a genius, funny little Australian

  5. He's a funny guy. I'd like to see more of him in America.

  6. He's not American. Yes, he speaks English...

But, if a person from England speaking in a received pronunciation dialect says al-loo-min-ee-um for Aluminum, are they confused or pronouncing the word the way their dialect teaches? The same Englishmen would pronounce Herbs with the "H"....because there is a fucking "H" in it....Americans chose to drop the "H".

  7. I don't like this guy.  There is a plethora of much better comedians out there talking about how crazy  religion is.  All this guy does is basically swear and say how stupid everything is. Its hard to tell whether he's a bigoted thug or not, he sounds like one at times that's for sure - is it 'ironic bigotry'? or real bigotry? He sounds right on the borderline to me.

If you like stand up comedy about how ridiculous religion is, try Ricky Gervais or Tim Minchin (amongst others) - much more insight, more intelligence, not relying on cheap laughs (from gratuitous insults) and much funnier!

  8. Way to completely miss the point Anitiphones and Komal.  Once again the bigot card gets thrown into the ring.  People just can't laugh at funny jokes even if they do use "salty" language.  Listen you two, that's how regular people talk.  We use words like cunt and fuck because the very idea that there are bad words is so ludicrous that it makes me not like or trust those that do believe there are bad words.  Get over your superiority and let's play the bigot or race card a little bit more carefully ok?  Thanks

  9. Legionnary, his accent is not received pronounciation.  It's Australian.

  10. If you notice how regular people talk, more than 95% are homophobes. Does it mean it's okay? No! And what atheists should do should be trying to end those stereotypes and show tolerance. What this "comedian" is doing is simply playing on the mainstream ignorance and hate, and reinforcing those stupid stereotypes.
How sad to see that an atheist is resorting to that kind of "jokes".

  12. I'm sorry komal, but people who take life too seriously aren't entitled to make comments on what is or isn't funny. You're attacking his grammar? ... Seriously? Go find a drumstick and sit on it

  13. Because a person uses the words "gay" or "fag" in their everyday speech does NOT mean they are homophobic.  The time we live in right now is that for the most part, those words do not mean homosexual and generally mean someone who is an ass.  I know that it is a shame that the words were linked to gay people at one time (and still sometimes are) but the overall shift with the words is away from homosexuality.  At one time those words meant completely different things, gay meant happy and fag meant a bundle of sticks.  Does this mean that we think all gay people are happy and all faggots are bundles of sticks?  We don't even consider it.

The biggest problem in that atheist movement as well as the humanist movement is that we have sticks in the mud that also join.  You have absolutely no idea what comedy is because you are not a funny person.  Stereotypes are hilarious and there are quite a few for each gender, each race, and each religion.  Also, if you think tolerance is the way to improve this world than you are an elitist.  I would rather be despised than tolerated.  Who the fuck would want to be....tolerated.  Is there anything more condescending than that?

  15. Zack, you and I live in different worlds.

  16. Love it. Got it. Unlike some here. We should make fun of the religious. They've earned it in spades.

  17. Wow some of you completely missed the point about why he mentioned gays and lesbians in the act in a fashion that was derogatory at first.  He was setting up for the punchline later, and it was a pretty hard hitting one directed right at making the bigots in the audience feel like hypocrites.  Listen again to the part between 6:15 and 7:15 where he admonishes people for *failing* to be offended by his anti-gay jokes - he points out how people would listen through all of that and be perfectly okay with it, but then get offended only when he insulted Christianity and god.  Now, I think it was a really clumsy way to try to make that point, but please people, stop pretending he was trying to spread hate about gays and lesbians when he was actually attempting to make a point about the hypocrisy of those who are okay with that kind of talk and yet get offended at the slightest small dig about religion.

If you'd actually pay attention to the end of the clip you'd see that you attributed a motivation to him that was the exact opposite of the one he actually had.  You should be ashamed of that sort of strawmanning.

  18. Took the words right out of my mouth. How did the people critisizing this video miss that whole point. Although I slightly disagree with the "clumsy" part, we've all got our opinions.

  19. He's a bloke, a slightly pis*ed Aussie bloke, who like lots of Aussie blokes have no time for religious nonsense. At least he's able to speak his mind and without any fear, lambast the deluded idiots that subscribe to a religious doctrine based on things written by bronze age nomadic goat herders. It's a pile of steaming twat.

  20. Well it's a generational thing.  I don't get why people used words like "hip" and "groovy"

  21. Good on him. I'm Australian. As he said 27% of Australians believe in "god". 7% of them go to Church regularly. 93% of Australians have much better things to do on Sunday than listen to some Bible Thumping brain dead preacher reading from ther worst book of fiction every written: the "Holy" Bible.

  22. I disagree about the use of swearing.  Why is one word a swear and another not?  Why have humans always had swear words?  Because they represent something.  There is a meaning behind them that cannot be expressed by words which are not swear words. What the actual words are is irrelevant, its what they represent that's important - they have have a meaning for humans - amongst other things they express contempt, anger, frustration in ways that you can't do with other words.  This is why we have them and why we need them.  But some comedians (and there are always some) find that its a quick and easy way to get laughs.  Rather than come up with something really clever and funny, they can just swear a lot and they'll get laughs.  Its an age old technique.

I'm not saying Jeffries doesn't have some insights.  I'm just saying that there are a lot of other stand ups who have a lot more insights about the same sorts of topics and to me are a lot funnier, and they manage to do it without resorting to swearing turned up to 11.

As for the bigotry thing.  If you read what I said above, I'm not saying he is a bigot, I'm saying he talks like one.  Again its a language thing.  Friends might 'pretend' to talk like bigots as a joke - because they both know that they abhor bigotry so much that they can lampoon it together by pretending it.  But doing that in public, in what on the face of it, sounds like the real thing... is something else  It seems to me that its another example of an easy way to get a reaction - see how close to the line you can tread because it hypes things up.  Same thing as swearing in every sentence or having your guitar amp to 11 on every song.

  23. Well, this is the perfect place for this discussion because this all has to do with religion.  Let's think of all the swear words that we have: fuck, shit, ass, cock, dick, pussy, cunt.  These are the old school words, and when I mean words I mean the meanings behind them: sex, excrement, buttox, penis, vagina.  These are words that deal with human genitalia or the act of sexual intercourse depending if you add various words or suffixes.  And who has a problem with genitalia and sex?  Religion.  It all comes back to the core of the fact that people despise being told what they can and cannot say.  Take the word midget. Midget is now called the "M" word on news programs.  All of a sudden I really want to say midget all the time.  It has nothing to do with anger and frustration.  I say "Jesus Christ" and "Goddamnit" in anger all the time and the words mean literally nothing to those that seek out this website.  They're not ugly words or gross words or words that mean something private, they're said because we are told not to.

  24. You're both wrong. 'Komal' for thinking this dude was 'confused' rather than specifically using odd wording on purpose for the comedic value -duh.

And 'Legionnary' for mixing up 'Komal's' claim of 'word confusion' with his(?) explanation about 'alternative pronunciation'.

My issue with this guy was mainly the section where he said Russians don't believe in God at all. Even though 'none of them' is just for the joke of it, he's still seems to actually think Russia is essentially an atheistic nation -which isn't at all true.
Not even when a Communist dictatorship ruled the land. He should change his joke to the Nordic countries that are actually the most atheistic in the world. Still wouldn't make that section funny though.

Overall I like the 'Christians are retarded' jokes, but they are very, very easy and have been done so much that they're not clever. And that's the worst thing for a comedian. Unless you're a redneck comedian from the bible belt.
    Burn!

  25. He was funny but he also was bigoted at times when he said things like "I can't stand to be around religious people" and what was that about lesbians and muslims? It sounds like something I'm glad I missed. The Muslim religion is bad, but I don't agree with kidding around about killing muslims, or reinforce bad stereotypes about lesbians.

  26. Also, he could have mentioned that the ten commandments are bullshit not because they are sensible for living your life, but because most of them are not about living your life and the remainder ARE obvious...

  27. Until religion is classified as a delusion of the mentally disabled, they are fair game. Why is it OK to say you "can't stand" politicians, bankers, lawyers, [insert your favorite group], but not religious people?
