Husband Confronts Abortion Protesters

From Salon:
We’re used to seeing videos of anti-abortion activists spewing venom in front of women’s clinics, but rarely do we get to see the tables turned. Thanks to Aaron Gouveia, now we do.

He and his 16-weeks-pregnant wife went to a women’s clinic in Brookline, Mass. for an abortion after discovering that their baby had a congenital deformity with no chance for survival. On their way in, they were confronted by images of dismembered fetuses and two women yelling, “You’re killing your unborn baby!” Enraged, Gouveia decided to confront the protesters while his wife was in surgery, and he caught the whole interaction on his cellphone.

    Bravo!

Oh and the last line: "You´re an angry father". You have to give it to these people , they do offensive and insensitive like know one else. And they want to call the cops? It doesn´t take much to rattle their cages.
I don´t condone violence but I sometimes wonder if a slap in the face or kick up the backside could somehow send a brainwave that would snap them out of their self-rightous, Jesus induced coma.

Anyway bravo for this guy who took on not one but two bigots on probably one of the worst days of his life.

  3. I admire his self-control.

  4. I really want to say hoe sorry I am for him and his wife. there aren't many things as sad as what they have gone through. however: good for the guy! I wish this would happen more often. the reactions of the picket show all the hypocrisy and narrowmindedness one has grown to expect of the religious and/or conservative fundamentalists.

  5. Picketing pro-lifers need to be treated like the Westboro Baptist Church folk... they need to be picketed and protested against in public. The more negative response they receive on the streets, the less incentive they will have in organizing their hate. They should feel uncomfortable being bigots.

I agree these childish and cruel bullies should be confronted and not get away with intimidating people the way they do. Let them choke on their own bigoted medicin for once. Don´t think it will change them but they´ll know that it is going to take more work and it won´t be as fun. These exhibitionists for Jesus get a kick out of this in their heads. They´re probably junkies and addicted to this behaviour.

Lets start an Ex-picketer organisation/charity and lets help these Picketer non-
anonymous through a 12 step programme.

  7. Those idiots don't give a damn about life.  Their only concern is their narrow-minded agenda.     Good on that man for standing up to them, despite the fact that he didn't get through to them.  It's impossible to reason with such thick-headed people.

  8. Awesome. I don't think i could have restrained myself as well as this guy did. These people are hateful. I went by a group of them holding signs up at an intersection next to their church and berated all of them for what they were doing and they yelled the most hateful, obscenity laced stuff back. Hypocrisy at it's finest with these numb nuts.

  9. No shit. I think I would of beat the bitches to a pulp if I were in his shoes. God damn, what filth.

  10. I agree, hats off to his self-restraint!

  11. There is a clinic here in my state which I pass on a regular basis and get so see these bible thumpers out in front of spewing their message to any and everyone that passes by.  So as I drive by I always roll down my window and shout at them to "Get a Fuckin' Job!"

LOL...not sure it amounts to anything, but it makes me smile :)

  12. So let me get this strait. Offensive words and pictures is justification for physical violence?

Personally I do not like men who beat up women. But I guess I am just old fashioned.

I think you guys should look in the mirror before you use the "BIGOT" word.

    BTW I am pro-choice.

  13. Did you even watch this? He didn't beat anyone up! WTF are you on about?

    "BTW I am pro-choice."

    No shit??

  15. Ohhh.. OK, now I get it! I really thought you were commenting to the actual vid, and he wasn't aggressive at all! I apologize! I agree that these women being idiots is no justification to being violent to them. And if the commenters are really advocating that, I agree with you. I don't think it would be strange if someone actually DID loose their temper in a situation like that. Not good, but not surprising.

  16. This isn't facetious at all, but would someone like to explain to me how this is related to Atheism, at all?
Like, I get how the pro-gay rights video are, but this?

And I am pro-choice, but most of the US isn't. So we're in the minority here. I wouldn't be surprised if some atheists are pro-life either. Atheism is a lack of a stance on supernatural matters, not a political stance.

    ReplyDelete
  17. But about the video. What a bunch of shitbags. It's easy to think of stupid sluts getting abortions, but those narrow minded people couldn't imagine a more legitimate reason at all!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Seriously? Opposition from religious zelots who can't help but to do all they can to impose their so called moral standards on others would be the common denominator here. Specifically, in reguards to abortion, the unfounded belief in a soul that enters fetus at the moments of conception. That would be the problem here, and the main reason most of the US is "pro-life".

  19. I never saw evidence that these stupid women are Christian. We're just assuming they are (perhaps rightfully so). You could be an atheist and protest abortion. For all we know, these women were fellow atheists. I doubt it, but we shouldn't assume. That was my point I guess.

  20. Rewatching it, is that a picture of Jesus on one of their posters?

  21. I am so sorry for your loss and so impressed by your bravery in confronting these first stone casters who sit in judgement of people of whom they know nothing. You kept your cool and said exactly what needed to be said - that no, actually, it's not okay to kick women while they're down. These holier than thous are as you say, the lowest common denominator of humanity.

  22. The pro-lifer side of the debate is all about the idea that what makes murder be wrong is the ceasing of a soul, NOT the ceasing of a mind, combined with the idea that the soul is created at the moment the sperm hits the egg.  If you have a materialist philosophy that says there can be no soul, and that the mind is just a word for the software running on the brain's hardware, then a zygote consisting of a few hundred cells cannot in any way have enough of a mind for its cessation to be murder.  It has fewer cells total than even an ant has in just its brain.  This is why atheists are almost universally on the pro-choice side of the debate.  For the pro-lifer side to make sense one first has to presume the mind is carried inside the soul, not the brain.

  23. Way to read more into those comments than there really is you turd. I have never hit a woman and don't condone violence of any kind that isn't an organized sport. But you are a troll trying to stir a pot which is empty. Jerk.

  25. Actually, a majority of Americans is pro-choice.

  26. Or is it "are pro-choice?" English is so tricky.

  27. <p><span>"Pro-choice" my ass.<span>  </span>Jesus is watching each of you who would advocate/encourage/allow the SATANIC RITE of MURDERING AN UNBORN BABY, here in the Last Days when supernatural evil is progressively turned (as pre-ordained by the Creator) loose on the earth, as per the prophecies.<span>  </span>You satanic baby-killers (choice my ass) will stand DIRECTLY before Him (and do even now, as He watches you, every moment: bad Karma, baby)), just before you are thrown into hell.</span>
