Christopher Hitchens - First Words Post 9/11

20 comments:

  1. No matter how many times I see that footage, it sends chills through my body. It is one of, if not THE most horrific thing I have ever seen, and it never loses power.

Hitchens was bang on the money. But I dont mind people saying Oh My God. It's a phrase that is part of our language. I use it, and I don't believe in God. To use this phrase as a positive argument for faith is retarded.

  2. Actually on South African TV any blaspheming is censored (though cussing is ok). You would be amazed how many time they said 'OMG' in sitcoms like Friends.

  3. Planes crashing into a building the most horrifying thing ever seen? Goes to show what a goddam protected, spoiled life most of us live in our sanitized part of the word.
Wazzamatta? Mountains of murdered, tortured, decomposing, bloated bodies in the third world don't move you much? Stuff the flag up your ass and take a peep at the rest of the world.

  4. Butthurt much? Seriously kid, even if he is wrong in saying that 9/11 is the worst thing he's ever seen (which is his opinion, he didn't state it's the worst event ever), you aren't helping anything by raging on the internet. Two guesses at who is the real dipshit, first one doesn't count.

  5. I'll rage on the internet if I goddam wanna, because there's a lot to rage about....and it's fun to flush out the morons who think critical thinking belongs to only those who agree with them.
This "dipshit" is no "kid," but I certainly feel that dipping my shit in your sandbox would be appropriate.

  6. OMG is just about as pointless as saying "we'll run like hell" or something like that.

  7. Isn't "run like hell" a shorthand to something like "run like hell is chasing after you"?
Because if so, it's meaningless only if you don't know it's shorthand. (and to atheists who do)

  8. John, I don't normally respond to cretins like you, who use the cover of anonymity to thrash their anger at any person who wants to comment.

Let me explain in case your little brain starts to hurt a little - when I said it was one of, if not THE most horrifying thing I'd ever seen, i didn't mean just the event itself. Maybe I should have spelled it out more for those with IQs lower than a doormouse. That piece of footage represents more than just a plane flying into a building. OF COURSE there are more visually disturbing images, but I was implying the event itself stood for so much more.

You seriously need to chill out.

No amount of rationalizing expansion of your original post, (which represents this culture’s overwhelming myopic world view), nor the plethora of derogatory adolescent name-calling can hide the embarrassment you obviously feel about your “intelligence” being challenged. Sounds to me like you’re trying to convince yourself and perhaps some of the more Indignantly Parroting here.

And I don’t “thrash my anger at any person who wants to comment,” more often I register a vote and chuckle at the cleverer ones. In fact, I usually try to avoid the comments section here because I periodically find entries like yours offensively irresistible, particularly on a site whose members see themselves as critical thinkers.

  11. Reminds me of the time a nice, sincere colleague told me that analysis of flight recordings showed that the most common last utterance of crashing pilots was 'Mother'.

When I suggested that they might have been cut off in mid-word she didn't understand at first, but someone explained it to her later and she was quite offended.

  12. Stan. You're not the first with the (accusation??) Please, please, inform me of the commonly accepted definition of "Troll." I'm being sincere here.
I've been under the impression it's a Fundy who cruises atheist sites (or vice versa). If this is the case, I find your suspicion hillarious.
PS. Either way, I find your response surprisingly unregimented compared to some others.

Thereby proving what a hypocrite he is, since he's so quick to accuse everyone who disagrees with his vitriol as not critically thinking.
