2. What a simple assh**e. He is so mentally constipated he cannot even conceive of someone believing differently than he. He is also so stupid that he makes statements with no basis in reality. And, you can be certain that if some Muslims burned a Bible he would be apoplectic.

3. I actually agree with the preacher to some degree. I'm not sure burning the quran is the best way to make that statement but to a not small degree I too am worried about sharia courts in the US. The beliefs that the Quran puts forth are an insult to American principles of freedom and individuality. We shouldn't let that be subverted.

4. As an act of protest, I don't see any difference between someone burning a Qu'ran, burning a Bible, burning the American flag, or desecrating a cracker. They are all acts of Free Speech and those of us living under the First Amendment are entitled to them. The targets of these acts of Free Speech, whether they are Muslims, Christians, Americans, or Catholics, need to collectively grow a pair and realize that that bluster, threats, and violence in response is really proving the point of those who perform those acts— that the targets of those acts are merely bullies, and not the religions of peace and love; and/or not the societies of tolerance; they claim to be.

5. I tell you this thing Christian United States of America, in Islamic world we used to be secular in the beginnings of 20th century, all of it changed by the dawn of 1980s. So is it possible that USA would end up as a super retarded religious nation? I guess it is possible and even could be closer than what we perceive.

6. I'd chuck a few Bibles in there.

7. Why burn the stupid "Holy" books? Why not just loudly say something intelligent that contradicts the stupidity they contain instead? Perhaps this isn't possible, as they are mindless godbots themselves.

8. Egads... I almost actually like this guy. The kind of guy who'de actually let me burn his bible in protest. The kind of guy that would get the message - disagree with me, but get the message, and not try to stop me saying it other than with some other form of protest.

9. Why would burning a Koran upset moderates? They shouldn't get upset if they're moderates, part of being a moderate would be being "confident" enough in your beliefs that such a thing shouldn't bother you.

11. I kind of like that guy. He has a badass aura about him and seems to be rooted firmly in democracy.

Burning Qurans seems too blunt, though.

12. A digusting post, but what is expected from Christians....tsk tsk....crooked fingers always pointing at others, not wanting to see the hatred built into their own religion.

A sad day.

13. I agree with this, and with Robert. It always amazes me how quickly otherwise rational atheists, who have no problem at all criticizing Christianity, start screaming "racism!", "that's hateful!" and "you're being offensive!", the instant Islam becomes the target of criticism. This is nonsense.

I'm not a huge fan of burning books for any reason, it's juvenile and largely ineffectual. But if ever a book deserved to be burned, it's the Koran (and after that, the Hadith, and the Bible, and the Torah, and Dianetics....). Even though I agree with most of his criticisms of the Koran (sans the superstitious ones, natch), unfortunately the moral high ground that this Christianist is arguing from is more of a mosquito infested low-lying swamp. He is FULLY within his right to burn whatever books he wants, so long as he owns them and Muslims have every right to be as offended as their little hearts please. But they DON'T have a right to NOT be offended by his actions.

I'm proud of the fact that in the US we don't have any stupid "anti-hate speech" laws, where we are free to reaffirm our commitment to genuine freedom of speech with tests such as this case.

15. this guy is obviously both a bigot and a racist...the bible is more violent and disgusting than he quran...but if this guy doesn't mind someone burning his book i guess that is ok? i dont know...this is the tension between freedom of speech and hate speech...in america you have the 1st amendment so i guess freedom of expression trumps all...in other countries this might not be appropriate

ReplyDelete
16. Oh noeees! Someone, somewhere is expressing hatred of something! They must be stopped at all cost; lest my delicate, fragile sensibilities become terribly, irreparably offended by such intolerant beastliness!

If your definition of freedom of speech doesn't protect the most disgusting, outrageous, offensive, contemptible, execrable, atrocious, objectionable, appalling, and obnoxious forms of speech on offer, then your version of "freedom of speech" isn't freedom of speech at all. It's a worthless pile of cheap, whored-up words. It's an utterly hollow, conceited pretense to freedom that you'd might as well flush away entirely, as it is already totally useless anyway. REAL FREEDOM OF SPEECH protects even the most explosively offensive forms conceivable.......and ESPECIALLY the most explosively offensive forms conceivable.

Ya know what 1st ammendment? I just realized I haven't paid any attention to you in like a week! Come here and let me give you a thousand sweet kisses of loooove!

17. Who cares if it's a sacred book. If I burn a flag or a Qur'an or a Bible and people get angry, they can suck it up. Is it right to do? In the spirit of protest, awareness raising and free speech, damn right it is.
That said, if these are the people I think they are, they do have a pro christian agenda and are seeing this issue as a christianity versus islam conflict. There's a book advertised on the facebook event page written by someone in that church which is titled: Islam is of the Devil - Learn the spiritual truths which will bring Christianity back to its God given place. In that light, I wouldn't want anything to do with it.

19. I agree with Blake 100%. Supposed intelligent atheists are very quick to throw ppl under the bus of racism and being "bigots" as soon as some hatful words against religion or Islam are said.I'm sorry but sometimes hateful words and anger is exactly what's called for. I was indoctrinated with religion as a child and I grew up in fear that if I did even the slightest thing bad that I'd go to hell. Things like that warrant the anger and hate I feel towered religion. Burn the Quran, burn the bible, if anyone gets offended let them. This guy has the right mentality , if nothing is said and no one takes a stand and says "enough is enough" we will end up like other countries that have an Islamic pc society. It's happening already with the building of their disgusting mosque in NYC. I hope someone bombs that place.

23. If this is christianity's beliefs then obviously this is crazy. Islam would never burn a christian's bible like he would for Quran. I think this is going out of hand. Well, God is everything. I hope God will show peace. One day people will realized and will regret for the rest of their lives. Islam is a peaceful religion. Learn about it. You will know. I am sure you will find yourself in it. Believe me. Insyallah.

24. It's truly reassuring that there are limits to the intolerance of islam, Leah. While many supporters remain silent about beheading hostages, stoning adulterers, randomly blowing people up, calling for the murder of cartoonists, authors and apostates, throwing acid in the face of schoolgirls and mutilating the genitalia of their female children, they would nevertheless definitely draw a line at burning a christian's bible, demonstrating it is, as you say, a peaceful religion.
As Hitch would say, we ALL have our limits.

26. I gotta say, after I read this, I'm not shocked. What else would you expect froma priest, who molests little boys? A true religious person, respects all religions, no matter what their beliefs are. I'm not saying Islam is right either, every religion has their good and bad. And lately I've noticed that because of some insane, suicide bombers, and people who dirty Islam with their behaviour, the whole religion is being judged. So that would mean that all priests are child molesters? Obviously not. Burning books, flags, beheading people and all other junk isn't anything religious, its sick, pathetic people using religion as an excuse, for their idiotic behaviour

27. How would you guys like it if we were to burn your holy jesus bible instead? wouldn't you guys will be pissed too? I cannot believe they are actually allowed to be doing this. It's a violence against religions. The world is coming to an end. When that comes, remember to not regret. Cause you will see the real meaning of life.

31. Clearly this is an ATHEIST media blog so the ppl that post on this site (you would think) are atheist. I don't see why anyone on here would get mad if you burned the bible and if they did they're on the wrong website

32. Anyone find it ironic that these people are pursuing a violent act in protest of a "violent" religion?

ReplyDelete
33. Perhaps we can get you to tie some explosives to your chest?????

ReplyDelete
34. It's a simple fact. You're disrespecting a God-fearing religion and Muslim belief. Whether or not you can do it without breaking any law or constitutions is different. It's merely a matter of disrespect. And these people are't showing any respect towards Muslims. Which is odd, because if they were true Christians they would know the closes people to them (in terms of belief) is the Muslims. I guess not everyone really knows the true basis of their own religion. Anyway, if you ever want to acheive something, you have to educate yourself first. Because condeming a religion because of it's violent nature by burning books is contradicting your very intention.
No one should burn any Holy Book; whether it's the Torah, Bible or Quran. These books don't belong to people, they are the words of God. The only person you shame in this act, is yourself.

36. As a dedicated anti-theist I detest all religion. This guy is a crack pot, like most christists are, but he is absolutely correct in this. The Quran calls for the death or enslavement of all non-muslims, and death for non-believers. Why the F#@K should I respect this book and its followers?! We should burn all Qurans, and bibles and torahs, and any other 'holy' book.

There arn't words in the english language to describe how much I hate religion!

ReplyDelete
37. I will hope and pray one day this pastor will convert to a Muslim...

ReplyDelete
38. You can hate religion all you like; it won't change the fact that Holy religions are based on truth and came from God. And as for what you think the Quran is stating about non-believers and non-Muslims, you should try maybe reading the Quran. You'd see that it's the least violent book you'd ever come across. Anyway, it's your chose whether to dwell in ignorance or not. I just want to help you, even if it means you learn more and still aren't satisfied.
Peace&Love.

39. You people really have to know, we were all created by god, and we should all get along, I don't get why they are hating the muslims all holy books should be left un touched. Not all muslims are like the ones who are actually the ones doing the things, so it's like your destroying a holy book for alittle bit of people, Muslim's are supposed to accept everyone , and if they don't they aren't really ones, and same goes for christians they have to respect everyone, we were all sent by god, and we should all be faithful that we have diversity, None of this should be going on our world is going terrible, this could start something big. Your discrasing the Christian name, Everyone is different, but either way we should all Respect eachother, we should respect jewish people, muslim, christian, chatlic , and yeah.. Our earth is turning into hate, I hope one day we all being gratefull that there are so many different races instead of hatin on others.

God Bless -- =]

This just shows that he doesnt care about anybody besides him and as Rick pointed that there are Muslims in America that love this country as much as he does that they are willing to die for it..... What do you think how other Muslims are going to feel that have no connection whatsoever to whats going on in the other side of the world???? Do you think WE are gonna like it??? HELL NO because it makes us look like fools and we're looked down upon just because we are Muslims.... I am a hard working Muslim American and I shouldnt be hated on just because I am not a Christian or Catholic or any other religion...... The question for all of you guys is how would you feel if an Imam comes on TV and says we'll burn the Bible on Christmas Eve and Day??? How would Christians feel about that??
