  4. I thought only "extremists" did this sort of stuff. All the sympathizers need to see this. These are rather normal people who allow their rationality to be replaced by religious fervor. It's ridiculous.

Clearly we're not all adults.  The man was giving a lecture at a secular university, not walking into a mosque with muhammed's face on a shirt.  Explain how he was going out of his way to piss people off?  Should we allow people with contraversial ideas to be beaten and killed because they, "deserve it?"  And how does one even deserve it?  I'm heavily offended by the Koran but I don't take to the streets frothing at the mouth ready to attack and possibly kill anyone who espouses it. To roll your eyes and blame the victim is a passive approval of aggressive, irrational violence.

  16. You know, I was thinking just that same thing while watching the video, but I have my doubts about the viability of that option, given its implications.

  18. Are you fucking serious? And then the jews? And then christians? And then whoever doesn't share your mindset? Don't be a child.

  19. While I agree that all the instigators were out of line, let's not fall into the generalization trap. Not all belief is created equal - we should weigh individual rights against each other. In this case, as a society (moderate muslims included) we should come together to say that freedom of speech is more important than blasphemy.

  20. "<span>Are you fucking serious? And then the jews? And then christians? And then whoever doesn't share your mindset?"</span>

Given the context of the video, I think he's refering to Muslims specifically because of their violent intolerance - not because "they don't share his mindset". It's also not uncommon for Muslim extremists to advocate the takeover of european states and placing them under Sharia (Islamic) law.  While I'm not agreeing with Krumm, I think maybe you would see things differently if Christians were moving to the middle east, causing trouble, suppressing free speech, killing people who "insult" Christianity, talking about taking over and placing everyone under Christian law, and banning other religions.

  21. What baffles me is how docile the police are. In America we would have quickly subdued the attacker physically and detained them.

My other observation is all the other non-Muslims, they simply sit there and calmly watch the events unfold. Personally, if I saw something like this occur I would be one of the first to stand up and try and stop these aggressors.

  22. <span>Umh no. This is adults who lack self-control and they should police their own emotions and actions. Even if you think someone is wrong you still should be able to relax about it and simpy think: "he has the right to be wrong" and leave it at that.

  28. <span>All radical and extremist muslims should be kicked out of the E.U. We shouldn't have to tolerate this crap! Let them preach hate in their own intellectually-bankrupt s**t-holes!</span>

    ReplyDelete
  29. Which is exactly what Christian have done through history when they had more power.

I don't think either that whole groups should not be let in. But if there would be a way to read people's minds to determine if they really do advocate using the freedom of certain democratic countries to indeed take over of said countries and destroy the very freedom that makes it easier for them to do this... Then yeah, I think it would be good to shut them out.

Typical bully behaviour by sexually dysfunctional men who can´t get laid.

They don´t appreciate the fact that they are lucky enough to live in one of the most egalitarian countries in the world, where they are fed, housed and get free education.

Expell these spoilt rotten brats back to the wherever they came from. Their ungrateful conduct is an insult to secular Scandinavia.
There are many out there like the tens of thousands Gay Iraqi men and women who face death and torture would move to Sweden in a heartbeat.

It´s these sort of people that make their lives hell.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The problem is double standards. Most, if not all, of the people drawing these cartoons and sparking this contraversy are Christians who are explicitly anti-Muslim and usually racist. They are delibrately trying to provoke and anger Muslims.

These cartoons are equivalent to racist caricatures of Obama at rallies or Phelps and his "God hates fags" signs. Nobody is holding these people up as paragons of free speech. They certainly don't publish this crap in major American newspapers as a "tribute to free speech".

Violence certainly isn't an appropriate response, but it's understandable. This is equivalent to Jewish members of the audience getting angry with a neo-Nazi Holocaust denier or a Black members getting angry at KKK spokesmen.

    ReplyDelete
  34. This is because shouting and anger doesn't mean people should be beaten and tasered.

The police in the USA are way out of hand. And dispshit Americans seem to revel in the violence. For example, making fun of the "Don't tase me bro!" college kid that was brutally attacked by campus police. Or cheering as the police beat and tasered a kid who ran out on the field during a baseball game. American prisons are hellholes where most prisoners are routinely raped and brutalized. Such things are completley unknown in Swedish prisons.

I certainly don't want police in Europe to act in any way like the deranged thugs Americans call "police". Sweden has zero crime compared to the US, so they must be doing something right.

I say this as a former American law enforcement officer.

  35. In America there is no problem.  The viciously and funny satire, "How Fatima Started Islam: Mohammad's Daughter Tells It All" is openly and publically sold by Amazon.com with no court contests, problems, or protests.  This may change but it is currently allowed.  The book depicts Mohammad as a urine-soaked, drunken fool too stupid to run his business 'Mohammad's Saloon & Brothel' well.  His daughter Fatima who is desperate to escape the brothel and servicing tricks fabricates the new religion.  As long as she can keep the old fool in booze and young children and camels to molest he will bother nobody.

This book could not be sold in Britain but there is currently no trouble in the United States

  36. So far right wingers with violent tendencies(perhaps Krumm himself) should be banned from the EU as well?

    ReplyDelete
  37. If this is true then my guess is that it has to do with few or nobody noticing it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Obviously it's a problem in the USA too, why else would Comedy Central censor South Park?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh, for heaven's sake.
First of all, no-one deserves to be beaten up for causing offense.
Second, I have little sympathy for people who knowingly seek out the opportunity to be offended. Seriously, they didn't have to go to the lecture, and it's preposterous to get offended by something someone else does in private.

What's next: people getting offended by something you think? How very 1984.

  41. <span>Except, of course, that Islam is a religion which one can choose to believe in or not whereas race and sexual orientation are not a matter of choice. </span>

  42. <span>To elaborate on my original comment...

Once upon a time in a young United States (1798 to be exact), President John Adams signed four bills collectively called The Alien and Sedition Acts. One of them was specifically called the Alien Friends Act, which expired two years after its passing into law, and stated that the President had the power to deport any resident alien considered a threat to the safety of the United States. Interestingly, Adams never deported anyone, although many aliens vonlutarily left the United States because the four laws may have created a paranoid atmosphere which threatened the livelihood of resident aliens.

The Act was never reinstated because of its controversially unconstitutional nature, and the case would still be the same today.  Were the EU to start deporting any Muslim that threatened the safety of the European people, how long would it be before all Muslims were kicked out like Jews if the term "threat" were left vague and open-ended in its definition?

Regardless, deportation is an extreme solution for extreme cases. A number of fundamentalist Muslims protesting violently is not extreme, but it is something that will get them in jail.</span>

  43. This is insulting to Islam!  It paints its followers as a bunch of small-minded, thin-skinned, cretins who demand that their prophet not be above mortal insult.  Instead, he's dragged down to their level and declared a hemophiliac, mortally wounded by the paper-cut of a cartoon caricature.

  45. Well I really disagree that all Muslims are "extremists", I live in a Muslim country yes most of the time I am confronted with extremists but you do actually get people that are very civilized and that actually listen to the other side of the story. The whole all Arabs are Muslim extremist terrorist is not true. This whole Bin Laden crap should not be an example of how you think about people from the same race/religion. That stereotyping alone will lead to normal people (none extremists) to actually act in very uncivilized ways.

    ReplyDelete
  46. this is why we can't have nice things

    ReplyDelete
  47. And let us not forget that muslims account for almost 24% of the world population. Reductionist views of complicated issues don't help anyone and encourage more ignorance. The media likes to sell islam as a religion of hatred because it keeps scared eyes glued to tv sets and reactionary blogs. It is a pitty that a lot of decent critique of ASPECTS of a religion are burried beneath willful ignorance when it come to understanding islam, which is just as complex as any other religion. Not all christians kill abortion doctors, not all muslims scream for an end to western civilization, and not all evolutionary scientists are smug and self-satisfied like Dawkins. Ha-cha! Haw.
