Bill Maher Slams Muslim Extremists

*Updated with youtube copy - Alternative link
April 30, 2010 on HBO's 'Real Time with Bill Maher'

  1. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

  2. Bill hit it this time.

  3. Bill simultaneously gets my greatest respect and my greatest disrespect.  On the subject of religion he's spot on - but then he goes and *claims* to be a rationalist while pushing woo-based claims about medicines.  He uses exactly the same righteous verbal beat-down for stances where he's already been proven wrong (such as his bullshit on vaccinations) as for stances where he's in the right.

  4. Sometimes I get really tired of Bill Maher but once in a while he releases some great piece of comedy as in this clip and we're friends again.

  5. Bill, My wife and I watch you and admire you wit, charm, intelligence and world view. In your conversation with Anderson Cooper tonight while slamming Islam radicals you took a major swipe at "all" muslims. That is really really offensive and not correct. We love America and will believe in its principals, constitution and the flag, I speak as a muslim and there are many who will agree with me. I hate muslims who try to harm US. I seriously think as you say they are not educated, they have been brainwashed and you are correct they have misbegotten guilt. They are misfits like some in other religious or foreign national individuals may be and they are prey to evil recruits, unfortunately there are evil ones who profess to  be Muslim.

I just wanted to say I really felt bad you made inclusive remarks and it hursts and is not correct. I wish you would rethink and make corrections, we will be grateful, of course we cannot do much else. Thanks for listening, hope you have gotten this.

  6. As an atheist myself, I certainly appreciate Maher's sentiment in general, but I think he tends to miss the mark a lot, especially in terms of singling out Islam as the worst religion of the big three monotheistic faiths.  This isn't so much about defending Islam against defamation as it is about Maher's deliberate Western exceptionalism.  I stumbled upon this article from the blog Wide Asleep in America (which incidentally is written by a fellow atheist) and thought it would be appropriate to link it here:

Keep up the good work, Atheist Media!
