Designing Women - Julia Sugarbaker "The Candidate"

From Friendly Atheist:
Actress Dixie Carter passed away over the weekend.

She played an actress on the show “Designing Women,” and in one particular episode from 1988, her character Julia Sugarbaker ran for a seat on a local board of commissioners.

Here’s her taking part in a debate where a question comes up about whether children should recite the Pledge of Allegiance in school.

  1. Nice speech--it's almost too bad Dixie Carter wasn't a liberal in real life. Although supportive of the gay community, Dixie was actually a pretty hardcore Republican and often clashed with the show's producers over the political content of [her character] Julia's little rants. But as a teenager viewer I knew nothing of that--thus Dixie/Julia became the object of my very first older woman crush.
