I've always liked this song but i really wished the video would have had something to do with the song lyrics. I don't see the connection between the people in a tree and... well... anything.
I interpreted the tree as the system of religion, with the people clinging to their deep rooted beliefs...notice at the end the only people left in the tree were the "old folks", whereas the younger people left their beliefs (willingly or not) as their sytem was shaken...perhaps to litereral but meh...it works ;)
