Pat Robertson Blames Haiti's "Pact To The Devil" For Catastrophe

January 13, 2010 on the Christian Broadcasting Network
PAT ROBERTSON: And, you know, Kristi, something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, "We will serve you if you will get us free from the French." True story. And so, the devil said, "OK, it's a deal."

And they kicked the French out. You know, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other. Desperately poor. That island of Hispaniola is one island. It's cut down the middle. On the one side is Haiti; on the other side is the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, et cetera. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have and we need to pray for them a great turning to God. And out of this tragedy, I'm optimistic something good may come. But right now, we're helping the suffering people, and the suffering is unimaginable.

KRISTI WATTS (co-host): Absolutely, Pat.

  4. attila: can't he be right though? I mean, either magic works or it doesn't. If Jesus was resurrected, why can't Haiti be voodoo spelled for eternity? It isn't any less likely.

  5. Seems like Pat has frequent conversations with the devil. Like they say, 'You're only as good as the company you keep'.

  7. Pat's god isn't only the most vicious, sadistic, vengeful sonofabitch imaginable, he's also incredibly stupid.
There's a whole lotta powerful rich guys he created in the middle east who kill people when they righteously convert to His holiness, but instead of smiting a few of these heathens with at least a sandstorm, he sends earthquakes to kill helpless thousands of the poorest of the poor he also created.
And you wanna spend eternity with this bloodthirsty monster?

  9. Yeah I guess thats the same reason Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans.. they prayed to the devil..
Imagine that guy being a US President..

Anyways we should do everything we can to help Haiti.

P.S. Thanks Pat for complimenting my country.  Yeah we Dominicans are so Christians.

I've heard A LOT of cracked up shit from the religious right, and I mean A LOT but honestly I think that is the worst thing I have ever heard. Like I see no possible way he could top that, he just seem so sincere which is the worst part! No doubt he believes the bullshit that comes out of his mouth. Just die already Pat do the world a favour

Somebody just shoot this guy! I mean humiliate somehow. I mean in the eyes of his own stupid followers! Please! Kill the guy! Don't ever show him on TV again!

I have less and less faith in humanity every day when I see this guy. Who supports his appearance? Who dares to stand next to him and support this idiocy? Shoot them too! :-D

    Oh my dog...

  13. I bet no one here has read about Haitian History.  There was a Vodou cememony to start the Haitian Revolution, the one that was successful.  But, they've been paying the price for winning ever since.  They share an island with the Domincan, which is doing just fine.  In Vodou white magic is used for healing, fortune, and worship.  But black magic is used for destruction and imbalance, etc.  So yes, it was indirectly or directly a pact with the devil.

HOWEVER, this does not mean we shouldn't help the Haitians.  Despite Pat's comment, we do believe everyone should love one another and treat each other with love, the way you would want someone to treat you.  SO, I hope that everyone on this site and everywhere do something to pitch in and help somehow.

  14. Yeah, Haitians and Myself made a pact. True story.

God wasn't so happy and wanted to punish them. First he sent poverty to the country and then he completely forgot about it. He was rather busy with 911, tsunami and some other projects. Finally he remembered it, he had a free day and said 'What the fuck, let's kill some poor bastards'!!!

  15. Since voodoo, the devil and all other forms of magic are make believe, they didn't make any kind of pact regardless. On top of that the entire premise is loaded with the concept of inheritable sin, which is an abominable bronze age doctrine. The slave revolt happened 206 years ago.

If the devil exists, and if he aided the slaves back then, he was being a good samaritan when he did it.

  16. My thought - isn't there something wrong with the Chrisitan god if the people of Haiti had to make a pact with the devil to free them from slavery?  The Christian god wasn't  willing to help them god was pro-slavery at the time.  The god that Pat and other Christians worship caused an earthquake, hurricanes, hundreds of years of poverty because he wanted Haitians to remain slaves.  It calls into question the morality of Pat, his fellow Chrisitians, and their god.  Bad people and an evil god.
