A mythical Jesus is entirely possible however I don't think the most common sources which make this case are being very dishonest intelectually and that there are much better resources which can be brought to this very important issue. The problems are broken down at this site:

skepticwiki is a very Atheist-friendly site, by the way. Essentially, contrary to the claims of Earl Doherty and others Paul spoke of Jesus as a human who recently had lived and died on Earth as a opposed to in a "spiritual plane." In Acts as well as Galatians Paul interacts with Jesus brother James ... A spirit world being with a human brother makes NO SENSE at all. These guys are just wrong and I'm not sure what they are trying to prove. King Midas actually existed, that doesn't mean he turned is wife into gold.
