From Hawaii News Now:
The head of Hawaii Citizens for the Separation of State and Church has been acquitted of a disorderly conduct charge stemming from his arrest while objecting a prayer being said at the beginning of a state Senate session in April.(Thanks to Ondřej and Valentine for the link)
When Senate President Colleen Hanabusa introduced a reverend to say the invocation, Mitch Kahle stood from his seat in the gallery of the Senate chambers and said, "I object. My name is Mitch Kahle and I object to this prayer on the grounds that it's a violation of the first amendment of the constitution of the United States. I object."
Kahle's protest lasted about seven seconds. Then he stopped talking and sat down. The Senate's Sergeant at Arms was determined to remove Kahle. When Kahle resisted he was forcefully removed and roughed up. The incident was caught by several video cameras including a camera belonging to Hawaii News Now.

is there anything nobler than being the one brave, dissenting voice in a crowd of sheep?
ReplyDeleteOh and on a completely unrelated note - War Damn Eagle!!
Now- The activist needs to go after THEM! Hire a bigtime attorney and charge the state with violation of his Constitutional rights, assault and battery, and a charge of knowingly violating the U.S. Constitution's first amendment.
ReplyDeleteThat right there is some scary stuff
ReplyDeleteGood work. Utterly inane prayer by the way!
ReplyDeletewhat the f***?! right don't seem to matter when religion is concerned!
ReplyDeleteThis is a good test case. I think I'm going to go do this in Colorado Springs.
ReplyDeleteGood for Mitch, but he could have timed it better. Like before the reverend started speaking.
ReplyDeleteThe security guards should all be fired and charged... the little one even tried to punch the camera man "You done gone and unsalted my god, shame on yous!"
ReplyDeleteGod's very own fascists, doing what they do best.
ReplyDeleteThat was intense.
ReplyDeleteNext time he should come with a lawyer and a camera man.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they would of beat him down like that if he had protested before the prayer started? He timed it like an idiot, but I imagine the hostility towards him would have been the same.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm confused. Are they still doing prayers at state senate meetings after this or not?
ReplyDeleteI heard a female voice protesting at the end also. What happened to her? I hope he presses full charges against all responsible. This will not stand, man!
ReplyDeleteVery proud of this guy. What courage.
Do anyone has the transcripts of this video? I would like to translate it to portuguese.
ReplyDeleteSorry the best time for the protest was while the prayer was being said. Though he sould have waited until "We ask all these things in the name of your son, Jesus," that is when there was an objection by a female voice!
ReplyDeleteIt was the violation of the American constiution that was shameful, not the objectors timing.
I hope the AU take up his case. There are people in this video who need to be charged with assult, and sentenced heavily. They knew they were committing an offence, which is why they did wanted to destory the camera.
This is some 1984 shit right here.
