  1. I am devastated that this great man is so ill with so much still to give. I deeply regret not knowing of him until only within the last couple of years but can console myself with that at least and the knowledge I have gained in this short time. Here's hoping there are many more years for him...and for us.

  2. Hitchens is just so amazing. I hope he continues writing and speaking for a long time to come because i will certainly be reading and listening to his work.

  3. We are witnessing history. All who follow this generation will know of this man and his contributions. How lucky we are, indeed.

  5. Hitchens has been a very important voice for me as an atheist.  I feel a deep appreciation and admiration for Christopher and wish him well from the bottom of my heart.

  6. Heart-wrenching. This entire string so far. Like you, I can barely force back the tears as I glance at the copy of his book I have along side his picture in the small candle-lit display/temple/alter/sacred space in the corner of my wee bedroom. Several times a day I put my hand over my heart and genuflect in a southerly direction toward where I know he will once more debate, bringing gladness to my heart and ridicule to my detractors,
As somebody else here so eloquently said: "<span>We are witnessing history. All who follow this generation will know of this man and his contributions. How lucky we are, indeed."</span>
<span>Hitchens. Right up there with the first footsteps on the moon.</span>
<span>Damn, I wish Carlin was still here. He's say it so much better.</span>

  9. You and Les should found a House of Worship. The Church of the Moudlin Sentiment & Overripe Admiration. I bet Hitch'll put you right on his list.

  11. Hitch ought to blow a joint before each treatment and he'd feel much better.

  15. You managed to say it quite eloquently, John.  So much so I can only say "Ditto for me"

  16. Odd thing about this site, Melinda. Say anything out of the orthodox atheist box and the so-called critical, independently-thinking regulars here are silent,,, or accuse you of being a troll. It's mostly a Mutual Agreement & Admiration society mutch like any wacko Fundy site.
Strange. Going against the grain seems to draw an inordinate no. of nods from one-time visitors--and women. Go figure.

  18. To Billybee:
Really, it's that kind of talk that Hitch is dead set on deflating, whether it be about him or anyone else. Let's just call the man a great writer with a sense of humor and style. He's not, and never claimed to be, a philosopher or beacon of reason.
