Reporter John Sweeney's last investigation into the Church of Scientology resulted in an explosive confrontation with church officials. This time, in a Panorama Special, one of those officials has turned whistleblower to help him reveal the dark secrets of the church, which boasts Hollywood A-listers Tom Cruise and John Travolta among its devotees.

  1. The Reformation's comment about the documentary:

"Well, that is the title in any event.  In fact,  the secrets they promised to tell never made it into the final edit. You can thank David Miscavige if you got the overall impression Scientology itself is weird.  The fifty letters from the Church and its lawyers to the BBC  that the church brags about in its counter video promised litigation should those secrets be told .  In other words, spend parishioner donations to cover Dave’s ass exclusively, forcing the media to fill in with old hat, more generalized attack material.  Protect Miscavige at the expense of Scientology.
The show does give credible accounts from Mike, Amy, Marc, Claire, Jason, Mareka, et al on matters the world ought to know.  But, the secrets that were touted and would have had the most salutory effects were left on the editing room floor.
In that respect, I admit I was wrong. I earlier suggested the BBC would be less inclined to back off as I had accused U.S. media of doing (since the BBC is publicly funded).   At the end of the day, I remain confident that the ‘save Dave at any expense’ strategy will be his own undoing."

Kinda dissapointed after this. Still, I've learnt quite a lot of shocking thing from the documentary.

  3. They, the faceless men representing the church, seem very aggresive, almost like a religious mafia, the big black vehicles, the large muscled men with threatening looks. It's a show. the plan would seem to scre the reporter off. Great, that it didn't work.

Is it just me, or is anyone else perplexed and amazed that there are "ex"-Scientologists who are disgruntled with the administration and have left the flock, but who actually STILL believe in the church itself?

    Blows my mind.

  5. Christine. I was thinking teh same thing. It just tells me we must prfevent children from being brainwashed. It means breaking the parents teaching religion cycle. It only happens if we can get more adults to break away. The children are at risk but its the adults we must convince (a bitch to do in the USA).

  6. It shouldn't surprise you.  It's no different than Martin Luther kicking off the protestants, claiming the church is totally corrupt and yet still thinking it was right to follow the religion that the church itself INVENTED.  The idea that you can expunge Roman Catholic influence from the bible and still keep the bible as it existed in his day word for word was silly.  That bible he used was the end-product of centuries of Roman Catholic propaganda.  If Martin Luther can do this and not see the problem with it, so too can Scientologists.
