Through The Wormhole – Is There A Creator? (2010)

Play all videos (5)
It’s perhaps the biggest, most controversial mystery in the cosmos. Did our Universe just come into being by random chance, or was it created by a God who nurtures and sustains all life?

The latest science is showing that the four forces governing our universe are phenomenally finely tuned. So finely that it had led many to the conclusion that someone, or something, must have calibrated them; a belief further backed up by evidence that everything in our universe may emanate from one extraordinarily elegant and beautiful design known as the E8 Lie Group.

While skeptics hold that these findings are neither conclusive nor evidence of a divine creator, some cutting edge physicists are already positing who this God is: an alien gamester who’s created our world as the ultimate SIM game for his own amusement. It’s an answer as compelling as it is disconcerting.

  1. The opening is ridiculous. No sorry, not many (any?) scientists are searching for God. Computer coders don't think that god is just running a simulation.

Gotta draw in the suckers somehow I guess.

  2. <p>Hi. I'm Morgan Freeman. You may remember me from such religious propaganda as 'Stop! You're Praying in the Wrong Direction!' and 'Fine Tuning: Nature's Workbench'
    </p><p>
</p><p>This is the fine tuning argument wrapped in a sexy science documentary. I could tell this was theistically motivated when the soufflé scientists states that if any physical parameters were changed, things would go wrong. WRONG?? There you have it. The arrogant Fine Tuning argument in a nutshell.

  3. Which is a shame really, because there are some cool ideas in here. Just stop mentioning god!!!!

  4. I have to say - there are still some amazing ideas in this documentary. A scientist discovers how the wiring of the human brain creates God. It's an incredible discovery, but it's frustrating this programme is packaged using a bias towards the need for a 'creator' in the first place.

  5. I wonder if things had been different, if we (or some other fairly intelligent beings) might be arguing about what might have gone "wrong" otherwise.

His prior statement about how life as we know it depends on the current formula was better phrased.

  6. What if this universe is one of a gazillion wrong/irrelevant/biproduct universes in a multiverse created by a god to enable the real purpose of his creation to evolve in another universe!?

Of course I am being facetious. I think it's a stupid and arrogant notion to assume any kind of fine-tuning of the universe with us in mind. Such a colossal waste and ironically, such unbelievable hubris to think a god of everything we can observe would have us in mind.

  7. The description reeks of retarded producers poisoning the domain of science documentary. There's this extremely potent phrase echoing through my mind "Shut. The Fuck. Up." For his own amusement... The universe has no choice to exist! The ultimate axiom which creates every other logical axiom... naturalism is the only possibility. Sorry, assholes.

  8. Wow! it only took 8 minutes of watching before I tore my eyeballs out over the sheer stupidity.

Lot's of sheeple will like this one, though.

Storyline - "We're not sure why the rules are the way they are and so finely tuned so, obviously God dunnit."

    Sheeple - "Woah... that's deep...  uhhhhhhh... "

  9. Wow, where did they find the skin-head surf-nazi mathmephysicist who outthunk Einstein? Oh yeah, on a beach in Maui, imagine that. Are they still growin that Maui Wowie stufff down there? I need me some of that. Just take a toke of that GUT and you've got gravitons fallin out all over the place. How cool is that, Dude?

  10. Hey. Shut the fuck up. Garrett Lisi is not a "skin-head surf-nazi", he's a fucking genius who's probably smarter than everyone commenting on this video combined. He is a real physicist working on a real alternative to supersymmetry and loop quantum gravity that is fully falsifiable in the conventional Poperian sense, and his ideas will either stand or fall on the dataset that the LHC and the Tevatron are now accumulating. FURTHERMORE, HE IS A PROMINENT ATHEIST. The one who created Sifter, in fact. The organization for rationalist/atheist scientists and adventurers. Plus, he's like a total fucking hottie; so step off bitch, he's mine!

Is this a stupid, patronizing, sensationalistic, vapidly shallow excuse to invoke god babble? Of course it is, it's on the fucking Science Channel and it's hosted by Morgan Freeman and endorsed by Jon Stewart, what the fuck did you expect? Jonathan Miller's "Body In Question"?

  12. <span>A fascinating, mind-bending piece of far-out scientific SPECULATION that used the term "god" as one of its metaphors, an unfortunate sin here that was sure to raise the ire of some of the more Atheistic purists on this site. And what clever, insightful and decisive skeptical refutation it is! Greg's "sufi-nazi mathmephysicist," Jame Cross' "sheeple", Rider's "retarded producers," James' "Soufflé Scientists" and Justin's "suckers."</span>
<span>But tip o' the hat for chief self-inflationary ego arrogance goes to the Guest who puts the entire question to rest with his "The Answer is No."</span>
<span>This list of parrots shows clearly that atheists CAN be herded like cats.</span>
<span>You usuallyt find this kind of mindless, unimaginative, communal thinking in church.</span>

  14. "Did our Universe just come into being by random chance, or was it created by a God who nurtures and sustains all life?" - It's not terribly encouraging when you start with a false dichotomy.  Are these really the only two possibilities?

  15. God-as-a-metaphor is not the same thing as god itself. It's really irritating when the word god is bandied about like that (although many science writers also do that, I imagine for marketing reasons.

When they say things like so-and-so has "found god in the brain". No! People will think he's found god (in the brain). No. He's found our perception of god. And this perception happens to be in the brain.

  17. So, the dude is not really a bald surfer living on Maui? Wow, I wonder where I came up with an obtuse idea like that? Oh yeah, the guy has a shaved head and said he was a surfer living on Maui. They must still be growin that Maui Wowie because you guys are sure trippin on something. And if you think the LCH is going to justify this guy and make a physicist out of him you might want to rethink your outthunk cause the machine is broke, if you haven't noticed. The problem is, it is not really broken, it just doesn't work. It doesn't work because the scientists trying to operate it are so far down the rabbit hole they don't know which way is forward. You don't have to believe me just open your eyes. If you think this is group-think I think your name is Alice.

  18. Are you a troll, or just an idiot? The LHC has been running sucessfully at 7 TeV center of mass collisions with moderate luminosity for the past SEVERAL MONTHS. Get a clue.

Very little product is required for a healthy Revita Eps Eyelash Growth Stimulator, you also get Hydroxatone lift pads that are unscented and doesn't have any down-time, it is important to consume food that contains it.
