This seems like it's just a slightly more sophisticated version of the notion of egocentrism, which is a theory of psychology that has been around for several decades. Unfortunately, the original experiments which supposedly demonstrated egocentrism were later criticised.
The criticism of those experiments was that perhaps the children were too young to understand the instructions they were given. The experiment Mr Seyfarth describes might address that criticism.
