Pakistan Bans Facebook Over 'Draw Muhammad Day'

May 19, 2010 on AP
Pakistan's government ordered Internet service providers to block Facebook amid anger over a page that encourages users to post images of Islam's Prophet Muhammad.

1. This is so disgusting. Honestly, as Americans, we need to just sit back and give respect to our foundation of freedom of speech and religion. History is a progression of ideas where the bad ones get left behind. We are so fortunate we don't live in fear and pain all based 7th c. book. This is the definition of terrorism.

3. What I find funny is that Islam doesn't forbid images of it's prophet, it forbids idolotry by images of what it considers god-like characters. (such as Muhammad)
When non-Muslims create images of whatever, even Muhammad, it shouldn't matter because they're idolaters (for not being Muslim) to begin with, so what Islam is really "up in arms" about is images being titiled with it's prophet's name.

We should have a 'Draw Muhammad (not Islam's prophet) Day' and see how that goes.

5. Hmm, that facebook page seems to have been removed, whats up with that? Did they bow down to the pressure?

6. Ok I`m Norwegian. Norway is part of Skandinavia. Norway did not draw cartoons of Muhammed (because they are chicken shit scared). Kurt WestergÄrd was Danish. Denmark is also part of Skandinavia. However, we have different flags. They were burning the Swedish and Norwegian flag in this vid. That constitutes a FAIL.
I dont care, just proves their ignorance.

12. It's hard to tell if someone's insulted, when he hasn't been around for about 1300 years.

13. Writing Muhammad with non-capitalized M, what a insult. That means Muhammad is not even a person, he is a thing. Like a pig, or a shoe.

14. the part that got me is the block is temporary, until they have a congress of Muslim country s to figure out how to prevent the image of their prophet from loading.now preventing it from loading on their computers would be fine,on all(our) computers would not be fine,i would like to know how they meant that *DONT_KNOW* .

15. Well if you can't critisize a child fucking, war mongering oppresor - who CAN you criticize?

Anyway - non beleivers drawing the historical man known as muhammed - is not really a critisism of the guy himself is it? Its an attempt to show how fragile most Muslims beleifs really are - that they can be threatened by a cartoon....and i see they've walked right into the trap.

the only difference between 'moderate' and extremist muslims is that they are only moderately bigotted, deluded, ignorant and sexually repressed.

religion of peace strikes again.

Do you consider your prophet to be such an impotent piece of crap that he is not able to defend himself ?
Have some respect for your idol. Let him show himself to the world of how offended he is by the pencils and a piece of paper.
You are burning the embassies and kill the film makers or journalists. You are burning the flags and scream DEATH to the western world while in the same time you are freaking out because someone pulls out his/her scrapbook.

31. Isn't it strange that "images" of the prophet are not allowed, but labels for him, such as the word "Mohammed", are? What about pictorial languages, where letters are pictograms?

What is the character for Mohammed in Chinese? Would that be banned as well?

32. The Objective Standard (an Objectivist magazine ) invited people to send in their own cartoons and provided a special link for them. The list of cartoons is prefaced with a comment about what's at stake. I quote an excerpt: "But, to the extent that individuals are forbidden to express their views, their lives are throttled (as Stone and Parker’s have been).
Recognition of this fact is what gives rise to the moral right to freedom of speech: the truth that people morally must be left free to express their views regardless of what others think or feel about those views. This right is not an opinion, nor a gift from “God,” nor a permission from government; it is the recognition of an immutable fact—the fact that a fully human life requires the freedom of expression."

33. Again, the blog posts multiple times. The bold quote also failed at an internal italics. The quote starts with "But, to the extent" and continues to the bottom.

35. While we're at it, this is also a good day to show some disrespect for the drivel in the Quran. Link: The Skeptic's Annotated Quran
With religion's ludicrous fantasies and its requirement for cognitively destructive hacks to support them, religion surely deserves being designated as a psychopathology. The commitment to irrationality is the first and foundational harm to people resulting from a commitment to religion. (This includes Islam.) A commitment to irrationalism is also a commitment to the use of coercion instead of persuasion; advocates of reason, deferring to facts, have no need to terrorize anyone. I love reality & reason--not Mo.
