Nate Phelps: The Grayness of Life

Play all videos (6)
Nate Phelps is one of the estranged children of Pastor Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church. Since Pastor Phelps began his latest assault on various segments of the world in 1991, Nate has been providing his perspective on the dark (or perhaps darker) side of Pastor Phelps.

Centre For Inquiry has invited Nate to Calgary to share his insights with the Calgary community. Knowing how groups like Westboro Baptist work is not only fascinating, but helpful in countering their message.

  1. This is a powerful testimony well delivered.  There is the horror of the damage done by a warped personality harnessed to religion, but I am left asking myself "Where was/is society?"  Teachers, doctors, midwives, social workers, neighbours, tradesmen, ANYONE!! whilst this goes on?

Does religion, no matter how crack-pot, no matter how abusive, automatically put blinkers on everyone?  If you say something is god's will, is that automatically a "get out of jail free" card?

Sadly, it seems to be so.  This has left me feeling very sad ... the anger will kick in soon.

I have yet to watch it, but I am in total agreement with what you say, having seen a previous interview with him.

There is something absolutely perverse about the fact that society is prepared to look the other way when it comes to religion.

I think that religion should be banned from children.
