Craig Venter has created artificial life. Last week, the geneticist announced that he and his research partner, the Nobel Laureate Hamilton Smith, had successfully transplanted synthetic DNA into living bacterial cells. He joins Sir David from New York to discuss his startling breakthrough and its implications for both science and ethics.

ReplyDeleteI guess there really is Intelligent Design!!!
ReplyDeleteSir David is a great journalist and I am impressed that he has this gig on Al Jazerra but it sure seems like he is struggling just to get his words out. How old is he now, 100?
ReplyDeleteExcellent genetic engineer. Poor economist. Intellectual Property does not spur creation of new medicine. Clearly, he's never heard of Jonas Salk.
