  1. I thought did very well and maintained composure and stayed professional during the 'interview.'

  2. Ingraham smugly belittles the fact that there are only 14,000 members of the FFRF versus 300 million Americans.

In 1491, the year before Columbus sailed, there were probably fewer than 14,000 who believed the earth was round. Look how right they were.

In 1858, the year before On The Origin of Species was published, there were probably fewer than 14,000 who believed man was created by god.  Look how right they were.

Oh Laura, you are so fucking WRONG!

  3. She and her mother are the co-founders.

  4. I'd like to see Hitchens or Harris take on Ingram and make her realize how ignorant she most likely is to her own faith. Gaylor is sweet, but she needs to be more dynamic if she wants to be on TV.

  5. Sam Harris would be perfect.  He was on Billo's show a few years ago and did an amazing job.

  6. And might I add, what a <span style="text-decoration: underline;">bitch</span>... like Ann Coulter and Jerry Falwell's evil lovechild.

  7. That people prior to Columbus thought that the earth was anything other than round is a myth. The Greeks and Romans knew it was round. Medieval scholars and naturalists wrote of the earth as being round. Columbus himself actually thought the Earth was pear-shaped.

  8. Atheists attacked by a Catholic for being dogmatic? WTF?

We do not claim knowledge via revelation from an unaccountable master of the universe.
We do not claim an infallible group or person. The is no "Pope" of atheism.
We don't tell people, including kids, that they will be fried forever because they don't believe what we say.
We do not have a holy book. We accept the primacy of reality and not of any book.
We do not accept the bizarre magical stories of the Bible.
We do not have hocus pocus rituals.
We expect science to inform us about what to eat.
We dd not have intellectual leaders who wear funny hats and robes.

In the way the interviewer was using "dogmatic" here, there is an implicit implication of irrationality. There is nothing irrational about not believing what hasn't been demonstrated and is incoherent. We've all seen this charge before and it always boils down to: "Atheists are just as irrational as us believers, and they, therefore, have nothing rational to say; they can't critisize religion."

It would have been kinda funny if Annie Laurie had injected, tongue in cheek, something like: "If you don't believe this, I'm sorry but you're going to burn for an eternity.

BTW, Annie Lauie Gaylor is married to Dan Barker who is the other co-president of FFRF. Dan wrote the informative book "<span>Godless: How an Evangelical Preacher Became One of America's Leading Atheists </span>". His intellectual journey to science and atheism is quite remarkable. I'm going to look into FFRF to see if I should at least make a donation. It's extremely important that they bring lawsuits. Without lawsuits, the nutters can do what they want with impunity and the separation of church and state is gone. Indeed, Annie Laurie had a small amount of time and needs to stick to the message she wants to make , which, I think, should have included the fact that FFRF brings lawsuits. That way, maybe she would have generated some donations from people interested in that one aspect of the organization. They have a web page outlining their legal accomplishments.

  10. I'm not all that thrilled about celebrating Winter Solstice. Also, a rather serious problem is that the Winter Solstice is June 20-21 in the Southern Hemisphere where Dec 20-21 is the Summer Solstice.  Even Newton's birthday is problematic because, although born on OS date Dec 25, the NS date is Jan 4. Oh well, I guess we Northerners can just celebrate Winter Solstice and leave the Southern Hemisphere to fend for themselves.

  11. <span style=""><span style="padding-top: 4px;">Ingraham was unbearably arrogant and annoying. I would not have been able to stay so calm in this. uh if i didn't hate fox already they would have lost my viewing permanently for the stupidity of ingraham.</span></span>

  12. What a bitch laura is.

  13. You can always celebrate Newton's birthday on Jan. 4, which allows you to take advantage of all the after-Christmas sales.

    ReplyDelete
  14. But there wouldn't be sales until after Newton's birthday.  I enjoy buying gifts for those I care about; it's one of the secular fun parts of Chrismas and I'd want to keep it.

  15. There's a common myth that people turned Columbus down when he went seeking funding because they didn't agree with him that the world was round.  Actually, most of the higher educated (like the nobility he was trying to interest in investing) agreed that it was round, and were criticising Columbus for his incorrect notion that the world was small.  They knew it was very big and there was no way his expedition would reach all the way around the long way without running out of supplies.

They were correct ,by the way.  He was damned lucky there was unforeseen land in the way so he could stop and resupply, or they would have all died.

  16. It's bizarre that we routinely take this sort of abuse. Yes I know, we're talking O'Reilly Report here, but still.  I can only hope that one day people like Laura will be as ashamed to use such primitive approaches (mud slinging, character assassination etc) against anti-theism as they would against any other guest.

  17. Yes, 300 million who can't agree on anything.  That sure is something to be proud of.

  18. Does she really believe in hell? Or does it allow her to reign power over her children? And perhaps professing such idiotic infantile beliefs allows her to remain in the social institutions in which she has become so powerful?

What a shameful and disgraceful life she leads. Yech.

    Heathen's Greetings

  19. Please...From now on if you're one of the top leaders in an Atheist Organization, Please don't go on Fox News unless you know what you're doing. This interview was embarassing. Ingraham is always going to be a piece of shit but that doesn't mean you should look weak.

  20. It seems to me that Ingraham was simply trying to pull-off the cliched smugness so prevelant in today's media.  She's trying to make herself a celebrity of a calibre she's not capable of living.

  21. yet another example of how close-minded and dismissive religious americans can be. at times it seemed like fox news was advertising christianity. laura ingraham waving her cross and saying how good she feels when she wears it. it sounds like she's selling a product.

annie laurie, on the other hand, presented incredibly strong arguements. anyone with half a brain will agree that laura ingraham lost this one
