I understand what Harris is trying to say, but i still think we should support the Richard Dawkins come out campaign.
In his speech at the AA, Harris said:

"We should not call ourselves “atheists.” We should not call ourselves “secularists.” We should not call ourselves “humanists,” or “secular humanists,” or “naturalists,” or “skeptics,” or “anti-theists,” or “rationalists,” or “freethinkers,” or “brights.” We should not call ourselves anything. We should go under the radar—for the rest of our lives. And while there, we should be decent, responsible people who destroy bad ideas wherever we find them."

I don't agree with that, we can't have no name. it's going to be tougher to unite without a name since we are a minority, and believers will still be calling us names anyway. I wouldn't mind "hijacking" the word bright like Dawkins says, but having no name is not even applicable, what are we going to call the conventions we gather at? or the organizations we set up and support?
Johnson's response wasn't appropriate either. she should have explained her points, without sounding like she is attacking Harris.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11311405062871508180noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-362590194397112658.post-89054709066053008582007-10-12T18:32:00.000-04:002007-10-12T18:32:00.000-04:00Awomen sister! Right down to the bit about Harris' new-age/tourture enthusiasm not reflecting well on the community. So let us shun the heretic and banish him to the wilderness ... Oh wait we don't do that, do we? Well maybe he'll reconsider ...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
